What does a supercharger or a turbo do? Deliver compressed air to the cylinders right?!?

Could we not deliver a set PSI & a certain volume faily simple? Most of us how 16-20ft boats with lots of unusable space right.

Why not use compressed air? It would be like a hit a Nitro wouldn't it?

What i don't know is how the fule air ratio works. Would this lean the motor out? With the 42HSR that would be an EZ fix if it does lean it out, but what about when you run out of air?

Just an idea a had while on the crapper.

PS. Digurdy or however you spell it...i just flushed on of your kind!

Y not just build a motor for nitrous?

I see it sais you have a 2054, why do you need a 9/16 bottom? Just curious. I would think a 3/16's would be indestructible with proper braces and runners. Sorry to f-up you thread.

No 3/16ths is not indestructible.

Sounds like a lil obama riggin  they do make turbos the size of a baseball, I had talked to hoyt about it and it is possible to put them on air cooled engines like on mud motors, but you can only set it to a certian PSI which is really low, the motors can only handle so much rpm's before they blow. So the amount of air that can be pushed into the motor is so low you'll be waisting your time, and deff your money ;)

as the rpms come up u would have to use a variable rate proximenter valve to control the turbo psi. maybe u need to start reading the news paper in the crapper.

Well we can get one of those from Marty and The Doc, so we're all good.

why has no one tried to build a billet block yet? that would handle boost for sure....

or maybe just adding a billet rear cover? that may brace it enough to increase its durability a lot..

Do it!

They make light weight air cooled engines at 90 hp for small aircraft. Not sure what the torque curve is, but they are expensive. When my motor does go, I think that will be my project. I believe the torque is low enough that the brigs clutch can handle it, but it will take more research on my part.

How much torque can these clutches handle?

A small GT30 turbo would be a pretty easy retro-fit for just about any engine, you do need a source of pressurized oil for lubrication and some way to have the air fuel ratio compensate. To do that you can do a draw through setup with the carb on the cold side of the turbo, or you can do some sort of EFI setup. All of this has been done before in the cart world/motorcycle world.

Adding boost would lean out the engine without compensation, but it has the advantage of being load sensitive so you can run unloaded without making a bunch of extra heat and using extra fuel, you really only build boost when you load up the motor. You would probably need to drop the compresion ratio some to help manage the heat and detonation potential but there isnt really any reason you cant do this.

These engines have a fairly low compression ratio from the get go. I would think the next thing in question is the block. It seems no one can get them to last fully modded.

i figure fully modded with all the bolt ons they make roughly double the h.p. and the turbo will be able to easily double the power! So the you would have to modify the weakest link, and from what everyone sais on here is the block!

im thinking the billet back plate would help it out a lot.

i seen 5hp handle 10000rpms with a billet back plate.

Don't we have a dude on here with a CNC lathe?......... hint hint.....

to make a billet crank case cover, the material would probably only be a few hundred bucks actually. On the other hand, the machining time would be astronomical. Ill make you one, send $5k to me and youll have the first.
