Post Royal purple oil good or bad?
Hey guys, I just bought a 29 hp vanguard.
Decided to change the oil in it today, and I was told Royal Purple was the BEST.
Not too sure about it.
Please let me know something before something bad may happens,
Or let me know if it's something good to use!

I've used it several times with no problems. I'm currently using Rotella, seems to work well too.

Royal Purple is the only oil I put into my motor, along with a K&N oil filter.

As long as it's the right weight I don't see how it could hurt. Hell I buy the white bottle that say "mower oil" from the hardware store down the street and haven't had any problems this far.

Post Re: Royal purple oil good or bad?
I thought I remembered Andy telling me this, but went and found this on another forum before posting just to make sure:

"I wouldn't put Royal Purple in anything I own. The magic ingredient in RP is chlorine. If you're doing a doubletake, you heard me right...CHLORINE. Chlorine metal on metal break surface tension, runs cooler, less friction, more horsepower, better fuel economy and better shifting. It does ALL of those things.

HOWEVER, chlorine attacks bearing surfaces, seals, gaskets and yellow metals.

It works better, for a shorter period of time."

In talking to the folks, like Andy, who have actually sent different oils off for analysis, Amsoil takes the cake hands down. Like most said, any oil will be fine as long as you change it on time, but if you want the best, Amsoil is the way to go. I'm running the z-rod in mine. $30 oil change (including wix filter) once or twice a year for me vs a $10-$20 oil change is a no brainer. As hard as I run my engine, I'll pay that extra $30 bucks a year for peace of mind.

Man I never heard that about the chlorine . I think I'm going to switch. Kinda scary when you think about it. Id like to see somebody do an experiment and prove that. May save some people allot of money.

i found it funny that the guy that posted and no it wasn't boat dr the chlorine results that u talk of never posted up his results. i can't tell u if it does or not. but a oil analysis will also show trace amounts of acid. h20 and other elements that will over time etch into metal. thats why its important to change ur oil. syn oils will withstand higher temp breakdown then reg oil. and thats what causes the break down heet. don't have to run it but it is better than conv oil. also when u are done running ur engine for those that put um up for the season u need to put in fresh oil and filter for the lay up in time. and yes coot u should do this for ur lawn mower also.
