gear vs belt driven motor (pro drive and go devil)
Im looking at buying a pro drive or a go devil motor. The pro drive is gear driven, and the go devil is belt driven. What are some opinions and experiences with both. What are the pros and cons of both. Has anybody broken a gear or belt and what did it entail to fix one?

Re: gear vs belt driven motor (pro drive and go devil)
That is a loaded question, but get ready your fixing to get all kinds of responses, personally out of the 2 you have mentioned, one is a dinsoaur (go-devil) and the other well it has reverse and alot more features that are more operator friendly (pro-drive). And the customer service for PD is outstanding and that goes along way, and they are easier to drive and more tiller forgiving on long runs

If you're considering belt driven. They have others besides the devil.

I'd like to add you hear of alot more belts breaking than PD l/u failures, given there are more total belt drives out there.

Re: gear vs belt driven motor (pro drive and go devil)
I am probably going to be buying a new motor. To be honest, I'm not sure how important having reverse would be to me. I would think it would be easier to break a belt vs. breaking gears. However, if changing a belt is a very simple process then thats not a huge deal. I would think changing gears would be alot more involved. Also, how important is neutral

Re: gear vs belt driven motor (pro drive and go devil)
Gears are NOT more reliable than a belt.
Belt drives are designed to absorb the shock associated with hitting stumps, rocks etc. by having slack on one side of the rotation.
Cost of replacing a belt on a new model GatorTail is free, as they now come with a lifetime belt drive warranty.
Cost of replacing a belt on a GoDevil is $100-150.
Cost to replace the gear set on a ProDrive is $800-$1000.

Not even close!!!!
This may be a selling point for GTR, Might have some substance! But they damn sure wasnt made to absorb shock!
Drop the clutch on a powerfull v-twin belt driven bike see what happens to your belt!!! Thats why anything with a large amont of SHOCK/POWER going through it will be gear, or Chain...

Re: gear vs belt driven motor (pro drive and go devil)
^^ you should ask someone who crawfishes for a living what holds up better in the woods... You simply cannot beat a belt. I've seen some of my customers go through 3 power heads with the same belt. If gears are as strong as you say they are why doen't Pro Drive give a LIFETIME warranty on them, Since they dont break

Re: gear vs belt driven motor (pro drive and go devil)
First off,,,,
I meant no attack on GTR, but why do you ass hats take to attacking everything else on the market...
When you deal with GTR, Is that thier sales pitch? To downgrade everything eles made? If so, they are poor buisness people...
What i was saying,,,and yes even you Calen cannot possibly make me think that a Belt is stronger then gear drive...If so,,,is your pickup truck belt driven? and why not?????
My Job deals with reliabilty, thats what i do,,,im a maintenance specialist on more equipment than you can imagin....From massive to small engines we have them all...NONE ARE BELT DRIVEN...
