Re: spark plugs
Agreed, I have had better luck with NGK in most engines but Champions are pretty good. Dont wast money on anything fancy or advertising 20% more power or anything like that. In reality you cannot feel the difference between a standard plug and a $12 plug other than in your wallet when you change them every season.

Re: spark plugs
I don't know if it's just coincidence or what, but last 3 motors I've seen with fouled plugs were all NGK. I've had best luck with Champion and Autolite

Re: spark plugs
Now i will tell you this if they aren't gapped right and 7 times out of 10 right out of the box they are not, then yeah you will see some serious fouling but when gapped right they are great. I ran them in my motor cross bikes which were four stroke

Re: spark plugs
I've been running stock plugs.
Haven't noticed a bit of difference.

Re: spark plugs
Electricity will take the path of least resistance. Those fancy multi prong plugs will just mak eyour wallet lighter.

Re: spark plugs
My dad runs the app3923's gapped at 35 in his 32 which is the same as your 31. I run them in my 36 as well. Haven't had a lick of trouble out of either motor.

Re: spark plugs
I have a stock GTR 35 (carb) motor and live in a cold climate. I just changed my plugs to RC14YC's after reading on the Briggs website that they could be better for cold weather starting and after seeing that part number referenced on several maintenance posts here. I gapped them to 0.030.
When I pulled the old plugs I saw they are RC12YC, which is my understanding run colder and help prevent pre-detonation on modded engines.
Would this be a factor in harder starts for cold weather? When would you choose the hotter plug (i.e. what should I be looking for--burned plugs, plugs smelling like gas, etc.)?
Thanks

Re: spark plugs
Consider the 14 a small step warmer plug. This does not mean it's a hotter spark. The tip of the spark plug runs a little warmer to keep carbon burned off. Run them and see if they help. It's not much of a heat change from a 12 to a 14
