 Re: Oil
As hard as we run these things in run Rotella in mine and change it every ten hours. after my break in(first 10 hrs) i was gonna go every 50 like it says but before my 50hrs was up i got my cam and Cody told me my oil was dirty dirty and inside my crank case was filty. Told me it would be best to do it every 10hrs to cut down on the filth in the block and longer engine life.

 Re: Oil
I'd recommend something with a good ZPPD package (and no chlorine ). Usually an off road or deisel oil, like rotella, if you want to stay conventional. Both of our motors have oil temps approaching the zones where conventional oil starts to break down (texas summer heat doesn't help), so I run amsoil. I'm running the zrod now, and have no complaints. Generally oil is oil, but the higher ZPPD oils are better for flat tappet motors and should help to prolong cam life. I don't mind spending a few extra bucks a couple times a year to run good oil. It's a peace of mind thing for me.

 Re: Oil
Zddp package oil is the way to go... stock-stockish motors I will reccomend a HDEO (IE Rotella, Mobil Delvac, Chevron Delo in a 15w40). If you got a wild motor I suggest the amsoil stuff CB posted. ANything with a high addp package is my choice. I change my oil once a year and do not run alot of hours anymore so I just use conventional diesel oil.

 Re: Oil
Better to run first 10 - 15 hours with your choice of conventional to help seat the rings. Then switch to synthetic of your choice.
Like some have said here, amsoil is top of the line stuff. My dad was in the Air Force with the guy who invented it. They kept having problems with certain plane engines and they started using what now is amsoil and had little to no more problems. They now have oil for nearly every application.

 Re: Oil
Tried a few brands. Amsoil seems to hold up well, at 50 hours it has just begun to get a little darker, I think your wasting time and money if your not getting at least 50 hours between changes no matter how hard you run it (with stock bottom that is..)
