Still new so bear with me please.
When I picked up my rig, I was told to keep the motor SOAKED in WD-40 at all times, all parts, before and after each use. All I run in is Salt Water and Brackish Water. I even took it offshore thisl last weekend.
Is this good advice or is there something better?
Thanks

Careful with that WD-40, it will make bolts loosen up!

They are several products better, but pricey.......look into the CRC products and Saltex ( I think that's it)
My grandfather always sprayed the trailers down with vinegar and water.........I think the vinegar reacts with the salt and nuetralizes it...........but I would think it not good to spray on a motor......but who knows

I use wd40 with no problems. Not saying their isn't something better but its relatively cheap and it works

I spray my exhaust with wd after a ride but that's it, the rest of the motor gets fresh water

I live on the Bay so fresh water really doesnt cut it. Hell my truck rusts from sittin in the drive way. Bubba did say it was most importaint to spray it on the exhaust. I just like to take the best care of my equipment that I can. But WD wont hurt anything? Just keep my nuts and bolts tight>

Someone asked this in the past and "Corrosion X" seemed to be the consensus. It's available at Academy. It's a spray-on product. It leaves a clear, grease-like coating that acts as a barrier to water. I got some after reading about it here. It seems to work well. Stays on. Of course, as you know, anything you put on the muffler/exhaust gets burned off the next time out. I just use WD40 on it.

I used the corrosion x HD and it worked well on my motor, until I needed to work on it, or get work done on it. Lol

Always wash after each use. I go to car wash and wash with soap and water each time after a trip. Keep electrical parts with water resistant spray on them and spray motor down with wd40 won't hurt at all. Fresh water is the most important thing. Also don't forget about the belt housing flush it out good with fresh water

wd-40 or oil does it change the color of exhaust or make it weaker over time just wondering.

I have had awesome luck out of fluid film. Google it and see some of its effects. There was a guy on another forum that did snowplowing worm and he sprayed it on half his bolts and the other bolts another kind of penetrant. The reaults spoke for themselves. When im out of it I have used diesel.

Thanks for all of the good replies. I wash the piss out of all my equipment with soap/water and still have problems with rust.

I will keep using the WD for now and maybe a little CorrosionX every once and while.
Thanks again for the advice
