Post Mercury Switch ?'s
Can anyone tell me how manufactures are running a mercury switch for their "start-in gear protection" on a non-electric start motor with no charging or lighting coil?

thanks in advance,

jake

Jake,
You have me confused. I've never seen a merc sw on a pull start motor and why would it be needed? On the electric start motor they are connected into the wire that energizes the starter solenoid. When the engine is tilted down enough for the prop to be in the water the merc sw is open and the solenoid won't engage. The merc sw is either on or off based on engine tilt so if you connect it to the kill circuit and tilt the engine enough it will kill the engine. That probably wouldn't be good if you were digging in the mud. There may be applications of the merc sw I haven't seen. If so, I need someone to educate me.
