 EFI exceeds my expectations
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R23nvcJD ... e=youtu.beI finally found enough open water. It starts easier, idles slower, runs smoother, has better hole shot, runs faster and uses less fuel. As far as I'm concerned it's a no-brainer. The ECOTRONS EFI is installed on a 35 SD on 18 X 50 Polarcraft with modified V-bow. The bottom is rough and I know, that is far from an ideal boat, but it is what I had available. With a 750lb load (not including the motor) it did 28mph. If I dropped the load to 400lbs it hovered around 30. The only modification done to this Marine engine was the EFI. The only tuning I did to the EFI, after installation, was to adjust the idle. I look forward to trying it out on my primary boat which is 24 X 48 and has a cabin on it.

 Re: EFI exceeds my expectations
how protected does that efi have to be. what happens if it gets wet or if mud gets on it and you have to wash it off. or if just left outside in the elements.

 Re: EFI exceeds my expectations
The ECU and all critical plugs are very well sealed. I guess I'll find out this summer, but I'm not concerned.

 Re: EFI exceeds my expectations
I have received several inquiries that convince me I should clarify some things about the ECOTRONS EFI I have installed. The kit is not a kit. It is a group of very high quality components that are generic in nature. When they are installed together, in the right way, it is possible to put EFI on a lot of small engines but each installation will require fabrication of components unique to the particular engine. A good example is my intake system. I took a stock 993cc Briggs intake manifold to a buddy that is a master machinist and we decided where the injector bungs should be installed so the injectors sprayed directly at the head of the valve. He built a jig to assure proper alignment and installed the bungs in the curve of the intake manifold where it bolts up to the head. The bungs must be indexed properly so the injectors will accept the wiring and fuel lines. The bungs are very thin, as is the manifold at the curve so the TIG welding must be done by someone that is better than just competent. The bung on the inside of the manifold must then be ground smooth like you would with a port and polish. The cowling has to be cut to allow the injectors to fit and covers must made to keep proper cooling air flowing. The carb side of the manifold has two side by side ports and the throttle body is a single 42 mm hole with a flat 4-bolt flange. My solution was to fab a plenum that bolted to the manifold and that would receive the throttle body above it. I wanted to keep the profile as low as possible so the plenum is tipped 45 degrees to the rear. All of the components that work together need to be placed somewhere. The fuel pump is under the throttle body on a bracket I built. The O2 sensor bung is welded into the muffler equidistant from the two exhaust outlets and tipped forward to receive the connector. I found a spot for the pressure regulator next to the throttle body. My adaptation needs a fuel return line so I modified a tank for two lines. The wiring harness is too long but I didn't want to start cutting and splicing wires so I used a lot of wire ties to make sure everything is secure. The ECU is fastened to the rear of the belt box with some industrial strength Velcro. The bottom line is if you are looking for a plug-and-play don't call ECOTRONS. They are extremely helpful regarding how things work together, but you will have to do a lot to make things fit. If you are looking for a plug-and-play I suggest you watch what Prodrive offers first for the vertical engines and eventually for the horizontals. I'll try and include some pictures I took during the build. By the way, I'm not very interested in how YOU would have done something different. If you build your own and find something that works better, then I'll be interested. I don't have a clue on cost or time. If you are worried about either you can't afford it.
