bought a mud motor
Hey fella`s
Well on my third test drive i went ahead and bought a little 6.5 horse mud motor, it does everything i need it to do,
with me and my brother in-law and our modest amount of gear were getting everywhere we want to go,
getting 13 mph with two men and gear and 17 by myself, pretty happy with it, this was just to get my foot in the door, by next season ill upgrade im sure. 14/36 alumicraft jon.

Re: bought a mud motor
Man I'm impressed for real. 10 yrs ago I had a 24hp go devil that ran 22, 17 ain't bad at all!! Stay away from Dixie as stated
Before I bought a copperhead which is a good motor don't get me wrong, I would buy a used gt r pd if u can swing it. I also would buy a gd before a copperhead bc of the bigger motor Pd gt gd- u can't go wrong

Re: bought a mud motor
I see a lot of those mb's with cracked shaft housings. Several pics of them on here and there is one up at jays shop right now with the problem.....Jay was telling me the support gets loose and the vibration causes the cracking.....Definately read up on the different brands out there. If i was going smaller motor than the 25gtr I would prolly look at copperhead over all the other companies making the smaller hp sd's.

Re: bought a mud motor
lighten up that support.....drill it out or have it water cut. It looks heavy and ugly ......

Re: bought a mud motor
Don't listen to all the haters on here, Mudbuddy has been an excellent motor for me and others. It's a great motor so don't shy away from one, you can find some great deals lately with everyone wanting the sport h/v. Personally the 4 big brand MM's are all good but some break way more frequent then others!

Re: bought a mud motor
not sure on the weight, but id guess 75-80 pounds with full fluids,
I swapped it for my trolling motor to hit up the fishing hole on the boy scout land near me and they dont allow gas motors period.
honestly thats what kind of worries me, it doesnt feel cheap by any means, it just dont feel heavy duty. but some guys in my area are posting vids of what they can do with the 6.5 like mine, the 10 and 15, they run them hard and beat the piss out of them like their free and get through some impressive shit.

Re: bought a mud motor
That's some good speed for a 6.5 hp and that rig will probably go a lot of places others can't. Good luck with your rig!!

Re: bought a mud motor
Jb mud motors is a great company. I have talked with the dad that builds the motors a few times at work. They are local and from what I have heard build a mean little motor! Going to their duck run in July!

Re: bought a mud motor
Yeah your right, I just called them back and talked to John and he said that the 15 HP was on sale right now for the same price as the 13 until August. So the JBMM 15 will be the one I get. Hopefully I will be able to make it to the Mud Run in July

Re: bought a mud motor
John at JBMM told me the dry weight of the 15 hp is 126 lbs. He said it works best with a 14 to 16 foot boat depending on how fast you want to go. Im having mine put on a 15/42 and he said the bouat would have no problem handleing the weight.
