I like the bps Q.

Post subject:  Re: best mods for mud buddy 35 non cdi

The BPS crossover is probably the only one that is actually performance minded, the rest are just about the sound. That's why people say save your money and gut the stocker and spend the money elsewhere. If you want performance, crossover. If you wanna fit in and be cool get a marshmellow.

I just bought a 17/54 gator trax with a stock mud buddy and was only seeing 23-24 with two man load. I have two trolling batts up front and one cranking batt and 6 gal fuel tank in rear. It planes out great just don't have the top speed I thought it would but I can fix that.

Build your motor up to the 5500 mag (heads, can, pistons, connecting rods, carb, and roller rockers/pushrods). I saw a nice jump in mph and can haul anything now.

and another thing....do the work yourself if you have the time....cab save yourself about 800-1000 on just labor!

I'm liking the 5500 mag thing. Has anyone done this? What kinda speeds are you getting?

If you want more top end then go with a PVT cam. It's very nice.

A buddy of mine has a 55 MAG on a Gator Trax 17x54 with huntdeck and hybrid rake. Two guys over 250 and me at 200 with dog and a shit load of gear we held steady between 29.5 and just a hair over 30 MPH running to the blind in about 2-5 feet of water.

The 55 MAG is a strong ass motor.

When I had a 5500 mag. During the building of our camp I hauled. 16@2x6x16's pressure treated, a 2200 watt generator, one 90qt ice chest full of beer,a 48 qt chest with food ,70 pound lab and three people avg about 190. On a 1748 ran 25 all day in deep water. The run was about 8 miles and it used 6gallons of gas. Guess it had a little bit of a load on it.
