I am running a Briggs 492932. Is this the correct filter I need? I told them a briggs 35 vanguard at the mower shop and that is what they handed me.

The briggs number I posted is the one that came on both of my 35's brand new and the diffrence would have to be what pressure the relief valve opens at in the filter!!

I didn't know it was this damn complicated, lol. I just go to Home Depot and buy a Briggs filter. Done.

I just bought a Briggs 492932S for my 35 and I am not going to use it, it doesn't have the check valve.
Careful when reading the cross's above, it must have the check valve. If you look in the filter you can see the spring in my 842921, not there in the 492932S

OHV motors need pressure up top, hence the valve.

Highly recommend the K&N, if you have every had to punch a screw driver thru an oil filter to remove it you will understand why I like the K&N design that has a built in hex.

i thought the "check valve" was to hold oil in the filter after shut down, and some have a by-pass that by-pass the filter element if the filter is plugged?

I'm sure Briggs doesn't make their own filter and buys from a 3rd party. Just like the Briggs oil that they slap a sticker on.

I know I physically looked at both the Wix filters, 51348 & 57035 and they have the check valve.
The 57035 is identical in size to the factory filter. I chose the 51348 because it was black in color and slightly longer, giving me more filter area.

This may help with the anti drainback/check valve and pressure relief

it actually did, better quality looking filter element and larger filter area, the drain back seal was more pliable and larger, the filter by pass better - this is the filter I use on my 19 kawi lawn mower, it's a little smaller sealing surface but gasket should seal on vanguards
