Post subject: | Oil leak question |
My new gtr developed a oil leak at the fitting where the oil line goes from the oil cooler to the oil filter area. I am going to replace the pos hose clamps that come on the motor with the good screw ones but I also need to fix the fitting. Question is what is typically used on fittings like this? Can Teflon tape be used or is there something special to use around oil ports? |

Mine did the same thing after 11 hrs on it. I took the hose loose and tighten fitting one turn and haven't had a problem since. |

I just tightened mine and it worked good. If you want to start over you can use teflon tape. It's good for up to 500 deg. |

Another website said 450-550f. So it exceeds the oil temp by double so it should have no problem for this application. |

Fine for the temps, but will it stand up to oil/fuel? Never looked myself, but been told it won't and its pretty much useless for oil and fuel fittings. |

I know from the factory they put some red stuff like pipe dope on them |

They make Teflon tape for use in gas pipe applications that should work. I believe its pink instead of white. |

that would explain the red pinkish stuff they use from the factory |

Yea. I just tightened mine down one turn and put hose clamps on the hose instead of quick connects. I have put 15 hrs on it since with not a drop leaking. GT must have ordered motors built on a friday...lol |
