 Prodrive problem. Got me Stumped
I have a PD 36 that when I put it in gear and under load, it will violently jerk the tiller and cut off. It will crank and run like a bat out hell in neutral or prop in gear out of water. But soon as it has to push boat, motor sta rts shakin and it cuts off. What In world is going on? Help. Thanks

Re: Prodrive problem. Got me Stumped
Sounds like you have a bad bearing or bearings in the lower unit. Can you spin the prop by hand?

I can spin prop with my hand. I can put in gear and putt around forward but as soon as I give it some gas it will jerk and go dead

Re: Prodrive problem. Got me Stumped
So I can put it in gear out of water and it will run 4000 rpm with no evidence of a prib. Would that still be a bearing? How hard is it to fix a bearing. I barely know difference between a friut basket and a head gasket but aint scared to learn

Re: Prodrive problem. Got me Stumped
I find the easiest way to check a dead cylinder is to fire it up and check each exhaust port to see which one gets hot. The cold one is dead. Or you can pull the plug wires one at a time.
