I just ordered a custom built boat and I am ordering a new motor, either the 45 mag or the 45oo blackdeath. any input from you guys on which you think is better. the boat is 17'6 by 54" with a huntdeck.

I think the mag carries load better not 100% on this but they will chime in. N u should go with a different motor. Something wit reverse that's not a mudbuddy jus my two cents

Both the 45 mag and 4500 BD will have similar load carrying ability. The BD has single Mikuni and IM heads the 45 mag has BPS pistons,rods and cam but stock carb and heads. I would go BD and get rid of the stock heads...

But before I go mayhem, I'll leave with this little tidbit...the 4500 has iron mountain heads and stock internals. That means that the heads are decked, ported, and big valves installed with a 3 angle job. And spring shims. Plus a carb and exhaust. So the most all of the power gains are coming from the valve job and jump in compression.

The 45 mag has longer rods and shaved pistons with a stock size combustion chamber. Plus a cam and roller rockers and dumb pushrods. And stainless valves (and I'm sure a valve job). Instead of building compression by cutting the heads they run a .120 longer rod and shave the piston. They do a valve job and put stainless valves to fix power loss due to leakage. The cam has more lift and duration than a stock cam and the 1.5 ratio rockers open the valves more. More compression + more air and fuel = more power, and with this setup with the stock size combustion chamber, it means more power especially on bottom end. Not to mention the dwell time difference with the longer rod makes a difference in what?

Oh nevermind, I won't answer that. You already know, because you've had some mudbuddys and know way more about engines than me. I just wasted all my time. The 45 mag is a load carrying bottom end type motor that will still outrun the 4500 on top. Period. Both engines are half assed and suck compared to custom work, but for the OP, I hope this answered your questions. Good day sir.

I really could give a flying fuck if they do a valve job on them or not. The 45 mag is stronger than the 4500. And like BB said they're both piles of shit. And so you don't have to ask like you did bayou boy, I run a gator tail (that could eat either of those motors) and I approve this message.
