I have a 1448 tracker grizzly that I am going to put a surface drive on. I was wondering which size surface drive would work best. I know this boat is not ideal for a surface drive since it is a mod V, 14ft and has a 16 inch transom. However, it is what I'm stuck with so a new boat is not an option. I know that I need to keep motor weight in mind so I have been looking at the copperhead and dixie motors. But I also have to keep in mind that the hull weight is 360lbs. I don't need to fly across the water but I don't want to be puttering to my duck hole either. Any advice on what size motor would be greatly appreciated. The transom is rated for a 25hp but... |

Check out the copperheads.... look at weight and let that be your guide.... an 18 would fit that boat if you want speed and load carrying it would be the ticket..... Yeah, I'm just not sure an 18hp would push my boat fast enough. I sold the 15 hp outboard because it was to slow. |

I had that exact boat for a while. I put a 27 hp mudbuddy SD on it and it would run about 23 mph with me one extra person. If you go that set up get pods on the boat. They are worth every penny on this set up. Have a fabricator custom make them for the transom with a slight angle and that will help the boat run level and prevent the porpoising. That set up was a great two person rig but really load sensitive. |
