Hey guys, I'm new to the forum and would like your input. My 2012 GTR35 started knocking really bad, so we shut it down had a buddy tow us in to prevent further damage. After getting it home, we drained the oil and found pieces of metal and shavings (not good). Well we took it to a dude in Raceland that does repairs and overhauls on mud motors, his diagnosis is that the carb ran lean and we smoked a piston. He said that he has seen this on several Briggs engines, my question is how common is this problem and what can you do to prevent it from happening? Thanks for any help.

Did he actually take the motor down and see what happened to it or did he just take a guess based on symptoms? You need to figure out what happened and what broke before you can start to think about prevention.

Bayouboy: The engine is stock. Jamie: I took it to D&M Block. Cupped: Hard to believe, but it still runs. He listened to it, checked compression (50# on one and 65# on the other cylinder) and did a few other checks. Wildberry: I should still have about 8 months left on the warranty. Thanks to you guys for helping.
