Post subject: | Exhaust Bolts |
I recently had to tap one of the heads on my GT where the exhaust bolts up. I had to go with a 3/8 X 16 tap to make good threads. The only bolt I had to match the tap was a stainless 3/8 X16. Will the stainless bolt hold up or will it want to gull after being heated by the exhaust? Thanks in advance for any input! |

Just seems like every other trip they backing out so I figured fresh threads might hold better than a heli coil. I haven't used heli coils in the past so don't have much confidence in them. It will be a small pain in the a$$ to have a different allen head but i already added one to my tool box i keep in the boat lol!! I would lock tight them but I have to take the exhaust off and weld it up every third trip! |

Nothing wrong with a heli coil. Had one of my exhaust bolts that wouldn't stay tight and it finally stripped out. I put a heli in it and never had a problem outa it again. |
