While in the process of getting my motor on my new boat I was gonna do some service work and tinker with a few things. So what I want to know is how did you go about removing the grass screen. I also found some studs where shortened in this process if anyone has pics to help me along it would be a big help. Thank you

couldn't a guy just use a metric shoulder bolt in place of cutting down the studs?

If you found one with the right shoulder but why when you can cut them for free?

Whatever floats your boat. They're made specifically to tighten on the in the shoulder of the shank and then the head barely snugs the plastic fan, finding one to fit perfectly, fuck that just cut it and keep going haha

FYI, Briggs no longer uses the grass shield (on the marine edition motors that is), and now installs a shouldered bolt to hold the round fan retainer in place. Just go to your local Briggs dealer and pick some up.
