Dad finished up the adapter and we got it installed. Hit the throttle linkage a couple times and turned the key. Fired right up with zero hesitation. The focus now is a filter/adapter and setting up the throttle cable. I believe what is used for the mikuni will work for my CV due to the design for the Harley Davidson. The attached photos show what I'm working with. |

I don't know, but seems you might not have enough clearance between the intake and the muffler to insert an air filter, or will you put an elbow in there? |

Plenty of room, they make stubby filters. |

I will be able to drop a filter in the hole no problem. The throttle linkage is my current mental twister. The govenor has a clip holding it from dropping down and CB sent me a block to lock it in. |

Nice, you'll have plenty of filtration options with that carb, the ones for the bikes are pancake style to keep a low side profile. |

Very Nice! Pops has some mad metals skills! Looks great! Question about the carb. Does the CV throttle valve work off a vacuum? |

With the throttle cable bracket shown in the above picture I was able to take the stock cable cut about four inches of the steel protective covering off and actually able to start the motor and and rev her up. However during the protective cover removal process I hit the cable with the cut off disc and pretty much turned it into a porcupine. I nipped the frayed ends off and got the throttle to open up and close on its own. The throttle response is soooooooooooo much better and it appears the jetting/AF settings are very close to being right on. A trip to the water is in the near future. I now need to find another cable, get it to fit and then set the throttle cable bracket up for a more running through the timber friendly position. Overall so far this carb seems to have been worth the effort. I was worried about the fuel pump and the needle valve/seat overflowing that I set up a overflow hose and there has not been any fuel issues. BB yes to the vaccum. |

BB dad had me take the adapter home and chop some of the fat off with my Rage chop saw. I was given instructions not to cut through the threads. As you can see I did. I was trying to chop as much excess off as I could. When I returned to his shop with the threads showing he gave me the same look he gave me 30 yrs ago when he found out I had been doing burn outs with his 1959 Corvette. |

Why did you go with a harley carb instead of a mikuni? Sent from my beeper |

La hunter I went with the CV for two reasons. First I did some research and found the CV carb and the Mikuni carb had identical performance up to 100 horsepower. I did a lot of research and spoke to my HD mechanic buddies who confirmed my research. The CV is a very good carb. Second I can buy a CV carb for next to nothing. I actually paid for this carb I have installed due to it coming right off a perfectly running HD. I gave the free one to my dad who in turn traded it for a HD seat for his bike. CV carbs can be bought for fifty bucks all day long. Since I built my own intake manifold I had to build a adapter for the CV. Once the adapter was done I had to buy a CV rubber adapter to bolt to the adapter. If I was running the stock manifold I could have bought a BPS adapter and went from there. Once done and some test runs with GPS are made I plan to do a thread on this CV carb. I know there are guys who are more handier than me on here and would love to put a nice carb on their motors for a little more than 100 bucks from start to finish. And get the same performance as the high dollar kits. Thanks Deadbird. I plan to make a safety shield for the carb once dialed in. CB when you were teaching the class on pinching pennies I told you I was listening. I did not say paying attention because I ain't paying for no attention. I can build it myself. |
