When i got the motor at idle theres a rattleing noise inside the belt box. Its not loud, but noticeable. When i bring the motor up to around half throttle the noise gets a helluva lot louder but then when i get up to almost full throttle it seems to go away.. I pulled the drain plug on the motor an probably a cup of water came out. I think/hope its from when i spray the motor down alittle water got into the vents but im not positive. Ima hunt with it in the morning and check the plug for water again when i get back. If so would that be the seals gone bad and the shaft is jacked?

I had the plug wraped in tefflon but around this time last year i had the box fill up with water but it was because the shaft seals needed to be replaced and the shaft was toast to. I still dont know why the belt is makeing that horrible noise though.

Water came out the plug again..so its either belt box seals or shaft seals?

Take both access pannels off and crank the motor. Find out what is making the noise. Fix that then reseal your pannels. Don't skimp on the silicone.

PULL THE HOSE OFF THE BACK BEARING AND PUMP GREASE THROUGH IT UNTIL IT COMES OUT THE HOSE BARB. THEN PUT HOSE BACK ON... SEE IF NOISE GOES AWAY

Mine makes the same noise sometimes. I usually then pump some grease in there. I have pulled the plug and no water comes out and also pulled the access panels and not seen anything noticeable.

So if i seal it back up an and theres water getting in, its gotta be the shaft and seals right?
That pretty hard/expensive to replace?

1. your belt is probably loose and that is causing the noise. Double check it, tighten it up before it pops.
2. Leaky box covers are causing your water leakage. If it is salt water I recomend that you get it completely serviced by a dealer. Get them to clean it out extensively and grease it all up.
3. Use marine silicone when sealing your box covers. Make sure to scrape all that old junk off first. Just make sure to check for water after first use as recomended by go devil.
4. I like to send my motors to be serviced completely every year. I did it with my long tail, 23 surface drive and about to do it with my 35. They will take the time to check everything and suggest potential repairs. down here you can use go devil or the boat doctor. I am sure Texas has some good repair men as well. They can check your nuts, bolts, engine and L/U. Most of the time this will prevent you from missing out on hunting. It is not guaranteed though because Briggs suck

Wasnt the belt...at first it sounded like the prop hitting shell so i didnt think anything about it. Then it got louder and i picked the motor up and water shot out the the vents st the top and it made a a horrible grinding noise. Would only do it past half throttle though. Came all the way home at idle. I thought it was the belt sliping until just now..pulled the pannels back off again and noticed this. I dont know what it is but i know its not good lol

If it's knocking in the shaft housing it sounds like you need a new shaft and definitely need upper bearings. If that's the case on the shaft you'll have to pull lower seals anyway to change shaft out so might as well get it all and when its all back together it'll be like new again.

Quack did you keep this greased often? Or do you think the panels have been leaking for quite awhile?
Wanna make sure this doesn't happen on mine lol

Once you replace that bearing(and seal as well) you will have to open that cover and grease it periodically. Not sure what kind of time interval GD recommends, but that may be something you wanna look up or call about. If you never greased that fitting your lucky you got 400hrs out of it

Pulled everything out and replaced the shaft, all seals bushings and bearings. Pretty much everything that touches the shaft. Pumped it all full of grease to. Went to start it up and it started squealing and right above the lower seal was extremely hot and smokeing, had to cool it down with some water. I guess it's something to do with the bushing?
