So I spoke to Al last week and he seems like a real stand up guy. I told him what I wanted to get out of my GTR and he recommended his 45 kit which consists of this.

PVT BB piston/rod set
PVT BB cam/lifter set
PVT roller rocker set
PVT BB pushrod set w/shims
PVT Manley Race Master valve set

My question is...Is there anyone in the Orlando area who knows what they are doing and can do this rebuild for me? I won't be getting the parts until after Christmas.

Its not that really hard to do it yourself or if you have a buddy that knows their way around a motor. These engines are pretty simple.

I'd advise that you have your heads done while you have them off for the valve and shim install.

Also, if you have CDI coils, get the high rev 4700 RPM set. And depending on what you have now, you need to upgrade your governor spring (like the MB 45 spring) to allow higher RPM operation. While you have the case cover off, you may also install the stud/sleeve kit from BoatDr. BoatDr could sell you all of the upgrade parts and headwork as well.

Just out of curiosity did he quote you a price for all that?

@deadbird...Thanks for the info. I have a 2013 so I believe I will be ok with the CDI coils. He is also going to port and polish for me.

@bassmastercia...here is what he quoted me on for the 45 Kit:

The kit is as follows:
PVT BB piston/rod set............................$495.00
PVT BB cam/lifter set.............................$235.00
PVT roller rocker set...............................$325.00
PVT BB pushrod set w/shims.................$70.00
PVT Manley Race Master valve set.........$140.00
Pro Flow Port & Polish............................$250

I sent my powerhead to Al a couple of years ago. He is the real deal. He did a great job on mine.

im just going off of info I read on here so somebody correct me if I'm wrong. I believe PVT builds compression with their Pistons, not by decking. Decking changes the angle of the pushrods a little and changes the "valve train geometry" slightly. Whatever that means.

Like I said before im just going on what I've read on here. But doesn't pvt build race cart engines that may well turn 7-8 grand for short periods of time? just trying to figure out why one builder won't deck, and all the others do...?

Post subject:  Re: Perf V Twins: Al Hodge

He will deck them if that is what you want. I know quite a few people who've had their heads decked at PVT. He prefers to build compression with pistons/rods, which I would prefer too, but it's a lot more expensive to do it that way. The heads are going to be worked anyway, decking only adds 100 bucks or so, pistons/rods is usually over 500 bucks. Both accomplish higher compression, pistons do it with more quench area which should yield a better performing motor. 4-500 dollars better is up to you. Everyone has their own way of doing things. You talk to as many as you can and do what you think is best.

@deadbird- Man, thank you so much for the info. It really put things into perspective for me. Great info. I'm not sure if I'm getting flat top pistons. I think it would be wise for me to find out.

@chevy01- I'm live in SW Orlando., Dr Phillips area. You guys are tempting me to crack this joker open myself. Is this a one day job or a few days?

I'd advise to get rid of the debris screen on the front when you put it back together.

I seen the 2014s don't have it. Why is that better airflow?

I would leave stock pushrods just a suggestion seen lots of torn up heads . Shit happens I'd rather bend a pushrods than crack a head.
