My 2013 35hp gdsd idles rough then quits when it is tilted up and I noticed today I am missing the governed idle tab spring .... could this be my issue? It idles fine when it is down but when it's tilted up it begins to bounce between high and low rpms then quits

Yes and yes

That spring helps maintain idle when put under instantaneous load (like engaging the clutch or in your case dropping the prop in the water). It wouldn't have anything to do with the motor position and keeping a consistent idle. Do you have some type of mercury switch on it?

There is a mercury switch just for the starter .. just ordered the spring see if it helps any who knows

we've seen some weird things fixed by installing that spring, hopefully it helps - at least it is cheap

Can't really tell in the part diagram doesn't seem like it is pictured but if u look at the picture you posted it's to the right of the red arrow for governor spring the purple spring .... there is two eyelets right there and I have a spring connecting those two

I don't know - DB8 knows a LOT more than me, did you call GD and send them a picture? Post a pic worth a 1000 words

this is why I tore this off my motor and went EFI

I'm missing one of those springs as well. But I'm afraid to change anything because it idles and runs just fine

Which one are you missing

I'll have to take a pic, I looked at it right when I got it, then stopped worrying about it after I realized it wasn't causing any problems

Ok ... once I get a day off and it's not negative 30 out I will have to check .. is that governor supposed to bounce the throttle up and down ? seems like I have excess slack in my throttle cable as well ..

Well I finally fixed my motor ... after struggling during duck season to idle In neutral ... I increased the idle on the carb back in October but didn't realize that there was an idle spring on the governor that needed to be 50 or 100 rpms above the idle setting on the carb or else it's all screwed up .... think the idle was set at like 800 on the governor spring and 1200 on the carb ...
But I got the tab bent out to 1300 rpms and my carb setting at 1200 ... I can tilt the motor up now all I want and it idles great and the governor keeps it regulated

Yea it's great now ... it was 0 degrees with a windchill that had to be at least negative 10 while I was doing this but it started very easy and warmed up just fine without kicking out despite the cold
