I run a 1754 excel f4 shallow water with a MB HD 42 Black Death. This was my first year running a SD rig and i am still learning a lot. On one hut this year i had 5 people, a dog, three dozen decs, three mojos, blind, blind bags, and guns and i really had no expectations of getting to my spot fast but only could go a little more then ideal without bogging down. Is this normal or should i look into y i was not able to get up and go?

Booner, the only way your gonna get anywhere any faster with that kinda load is more power. If that's the norm for ya get the heads worked at the very least.

To run that load you need a bigger boat and a stage 2. Thats a hell of a load.

You'll plane out better if you get some more MOJOs.

May want to regear your drive if you run heavy all the time. Something like 32 upper and 52 lower might keep engine from bogging.

If you want to haul a heavy load get a GTR. If you want to swallow a heavy load keep tat MB..lol

Ran that same load minus the dog and decoys in an old 1754 excel (2004 model) with a 45 mag. (250, 235, 210, 165, and 130 ish). Ran fine and got on plane with no struggle, but it didn't exactly hop up in a boat length. 19-20 mph (actual GPS speed). Can't imagine trying it in that boat with less power.

My normal load is 2-3 guys and gear and I'm getting 24ish . I run about 28-29 empty in deep water. I just was making sure it was supposed to bog down with that kind of load

yea well a 45 mag and a 4200 bd don't exactly compare. that's a whole nother machine

Just read through some of the mod threads on here, and look into getting your heads done. You've got a carb and exhaust, so some headwork should really show some nice gains.

In my old Excel (1754 HD, exhaust, without headwork) with 270, his dad, my corn-fed friend, and dog with the butt you can see from space - we couldn't even get on plane with hunting load. Headwork made a big difference on that motor.

In my 1851F4 w/ 5500 and 5 people I can run 28. The extra foot makes a big difference and load distribution is important in the Excel boat when you load it up. You overloaded your boat with 5 and hunting load.

As recommended- have your heads done, if they are stock they're probably leaking anyway (robbing power). If you need more, then go with a cam.

looks like i will be getting some work done. Next question is, do you guys think that the more preformace upgrades you do the more likely you take more chances of blowing the motor early in its life?
