Ok so I just got my first rig finally got a go devil longtail with a 23hp vanguard. Ran the pis out of it today and just feel like I can get the motor to perform a lot better than it does. Thinking about a new throttle lever don't like how the stock one sticks. And then air filter and exhaust . What's everyone's thoughts? And what's everyone's thoughts on carbs? I know it's a longtail and there not known for speed but I definitely think it could be improved. Not looking to spend a fortune either just curious what my options are what's everyone think? |

Long tails are slow and mods are a waste, if you wana go fast sell it and get a surface drive. If you want to get into some hard to reach places keep your long tail and enjoy the extra time on the water a LT affords you Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

If it's a used Motor you just picked up, make sure your prop isn't worn down. |

Mods on a 23 longtail , I did them on my swomp from backwater . The carb I used is a 34 mm mikuni round slide . You will need additional pieces for a carb swap ( intake , governer lock etc )I suggest using the bps lever to get full travel for the mikuni the exhaust I used is a bps crossover , but you can gut your stocker to save cash . My heads are decked forty thousands . The heads were done by setx. . The cam I installed is a pvt cam. You are not going to run 30 mph . You can achieve a respectable 24-25 if you spend the money . The stock prop I ran on my motor stock was a 9x6 . I'm turning a 9x 8 now running 24 + in deep water. I'm in the process of fine tuning my mikuni , larger pilot jet and smaller main jet. . I bought all these items off of Mmt from members looking to sell them . So it can be done at a price much less than buying all new. You won't have a speed demon capable of running at the front of the pack with modded surface drives, you will have a rig that will ride with the stock rigs and still go anywhere. . H Finn |

I gotcha thanks for the reply and I'm not expecting a speed demon by any means just thing there's more power there I'm not getting. Is the Bps exhaust worth it does it increase performance at all? |

Exhaust alone won't boost performance but its the first step in a 3 step process of getting the engine breathing right. |

I gotcha and I'm guessing the 3 stage process is air filter exhaust and carb? Also who makes a better exhaust BPS or Hopkins? And what about messing with the governor I don't think the previous owner did anything to the motor other than service. |

I'd leave it stock except heads. Get heads reworked, put a free flow air filter and what ever exhaust u want. As Flint said, longtail isn't for speed! Built to get in places others can't go Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Ya that's kinda what I was leaning towards just doing exhaust and air filter not even doing heads and just calling it done |

Ok I wasn't sure the kid I bought it from said it would do 22 with him and his dog but he was a younger kid and a lot smaller than me. I thought about upgrading to a surface drive one day but I was really impressed with some of the places this thing got me on Sunday. Places I don't think an airboat could have gone no joke |
