stay away from anything that isn't name brand. Trust me, you get what you pay for, and you will spend $1 trying to save $.10 !!

They have been making them for about 2 years now. He has several videos of their performance on his Facebook page. I was looking at them also.

I'll still never understand why someone would shell out 4500+ for a 23hp that isn't from one of the main manufacturers.....

True but the big names usually won't close up shop, leave you hanging when it fails, because it isn't proven, require you to machine your own parts, on your own dime. I may be biased, I started out with a Dixie. So piss on the small names.

I bought two of them. I have had a go-devil long tail, a Dixie 10, and a copperhead 10. The Mud-walker is the best yet. I have the 13hp, my buddy bought the 22 hp frame with a 21 subaru.

Granted, I only have about 5 hours on it so far, the 13 pushes my 1448 alumacraft 21mph with me and some gear. 2 men each 190 lbs guns and gear, 17 mph. Welds are solid and clean. Cables are routed through the inside of the tiller. All very nicely built. runs smoothly.

Only thing I will do is get the propeller cupped. He uses Hill Marine props and I am not thrilled with them. but that's on Hill.

Very good craftsmanship. The frame is over built. It will definitely support a larger engine. Even though I know they would not recommend it.

Anyone in South Fl can check mine out.

the big brands are big brands bc they spend more money to market their product, not necessarily bc its better. plenty of guys have issues with their PD or GT too. just search the forum and you will see.

im all for another guy getting in the market, increased competition will only make the industry and product better!

Bumping this thread. I agree often you get what you pay for and you cant go wrong with any of the mainstream brands, with that said mud motors aren't very complex machines. Figured it was worth noting this new brand is marketing the dry weight of their big block SD's at 195 lbs.

I’m looking for a surface drive. I mean good lord, how hard is it to buy from a reputable company . I understand that everything has issues but could somebody please steer me in the right direction . I’ve got a 670 between predator engine and a 14/48 boat. I only need the surface drive kit, not a motor.

Don’t know if copperhead sells just a frame and lower unit without an engine, but if they did, sounds like what you would be looking for, and the little copperheads do well for the people I’ve talked to who run them

The engines are the same. Most folks on here have no idea how to work on their own setup, thus, big name brands with customer service that they can bring it to. If you are mechanically inclined and the setup is right for you, go for it. If something breaks, you knew going n that customer service may be shady and you can fix yourself. If not, then go name brand and let them do it. There is nothing magical about a lawnmower engine whether its on a PD, GTR, GD, Dixie, crispy creme, who knows.
