My buddy's 35 hp gatortail runs fine out of the water but when you put it in the water it won't get on the wave, it bogs down.It recently started doing this after we took the back off and changed the crankcase gasket. We changed the spark plugs, cleaned the carb, cleaned values and checked them, and checked the timing. Maybe the coils ? But I don't see how they would have went bad by just taking the crankcase off. Please help

Pull the valve covers and make sure you're getting full travel in the valves.

Had a Longtail that did this because air was getting into the fuel line at a loose clamp on a filter. Start with the easy stuff. Valve travel like Craig said, fuel delivery buttoned up tight, etc.

Check cam lift as said above also ive seen the timing gears get out of time as the cover comes off. Did u double check the timing marks before puting cover back on?
