Post subject:  New member and motor options

Somewhat new to boats and mud motors. I've worked on many for customers from Go Devil vanguards to mud buddy surface drives and recently built my own long tail with a GX390 to play around on. Ever since I got started messing with these things and especially when I see the money people put into the 35hp vanguards to try to get more hp I've wondered why they are starting with that engine in the first place if power is what they are after?? Seems to me like buying a civic and turning it into a drag car. For instance a vanguard 35 is like 1000cc I believe right? A polaris 1000cc motor is making over 100hp from the factory. Just my thoughts, and those vanguards are heavy as crap. I'm gunna try to sell my home made / custom long tail and build another one a little better with a 2 stroke seadoo rotax 657x, about 80hp and see how it turns out. Wish me luck and feel free to tell me why its never gunna work or why its a bad idea, LOL.
