Well, I'll start by saying it cranks and runs. With no weird noises.

I'll follow with the information concerning the above referenced engine.
Began with:
Complete Block (engine was intact, crank, cover, stock pistons and rods, cam from gt)
A bunch of parts in a box
Some jenky old heads that needed some love (I truly and genuinely thank the individual that provided them, and he's probably laughing knowing exactly what I'm talking about lol)
Stock exhaust and stock carb from PRO (Thanks Blake)
Piston/rod set, intake adapter and flange (for mikuni) from Al at pvt
Gaskets from boatdr.

Through quite a few conversations with some gentleman I'm sure think I'm a dumbass (and rightfully so), I managed to arrive at a plan, hence the parts above. I sent the heads to Jamie to work his magic (cleaning up those heads can only be described as such), and they came back looking good to go. Thanks, Jamie.
I then commenced to pulling everything apart to put in the new internals, then slapped the cover back on with a gasket and some anerobic sealant. We'll see how that does at slowing the dreaded case leak. Bolted the heads on, set the lash, and added oil. Picked up a facet cube fuel pump, got it hooked up. Then to the first true confusing issue. I'll preface the following by saying I can't read a wiring diagram to save my life. I don't know why. Must be the simple lines going everywhere and the symbols that I can't ever decide what they mean. Anyway, I managed to get someone to explain what wire I hadn't hooked up and what it did, and voila, solenoid engaged. So now I have a spinning motor. Added fuel line to the mikuni, turned on the fuel pump, and turned the key. See beginning of post for results.
More to come, as next on tap is finishing up the gtr housing swap to short transom and reassembly of drive parts, mounting on boat, then dropping her in the water for the maiden voyage on her new home, replacing the mb with the 27 kawasaki. We'll see if I can get through all that this weekend.

Did you have the block honed when you replaced the pistons and rings?

Been playing with it this morning, going to change the pilot jet and adjust the float a little. Still not quite right. Sounds good though, no funny noises. Let it run for 20 minutes, playing with the idle adjustment and throttle. So far so good.

What jets you running?

Still needing a bigger main jet than I have, but idle and spin up seem about right. 1 hr in on the stand and all seems well. Just gotta fix that last bit of stutter on a wide open pull.

What did u hone the block with and how much clearance did u give the piston to cylinder wall. I hope u checked all the casting around the bottom side of the sleeve. Sure will fuk up a good piston skirt real quick

I let the machine shop take care of that. I won't pretend to know what I should've done. He builds racing engines for a living, so I figured he'd honed a block or two correctly in his time.

I was gonna just eyeball it with a dremel, but figured I better let a professional do it.

So, a short update: after getting it all buttoned up, dropped it in the water. 3500 rpms with an 11p 3 blade, and 3650 with a big blade. Speeds were decent (27 and 26.5, respectively), but the rpms just wouldn't go any further. Much troubleshooting later (ie swapping out coils, leakdown, etc) I'm left with the cam as the problem. Once I get it measured and confirm, and swapped out, will update with more results. At that point I can finish tuning the carb, and all should be good to go.

What's your out of water wot rpm

I have throttle left at 4800-5k

I'll add compression was at 220, 210 the first time I checked it (after its first water trip, but it already had a couple hours on the engine stand and trailer before that), 220, 193 after the second trip. Each trip was about 30 min of run time in the water.

Update: got the cam swapped out, compression now where it should be on both cylinders. Still under 4% on the leakdown. All good. Will drop it in the water soon as I can, and see if she runs like she's supposed to. Will update as soon as I find out.

I had to go into town to grab some oil.

Didn't drop it in the water this evening, but after letting the sealant cure approx 6 hours (it only called for 1), got it cranked up tonight. Runs a lot better now (I didn't realize it wasn't running as well as it could before, but hey, I'm coming from a small block that always ran great if the carb was clean, so I had low expectations from the briggs), and has a lot more twist on the frame (give it gas and the whole thing moves like it's trying to take off). Boss wouldn't let me come in late tomorrow, and laughed when I explained why. Oh well. I'll get it in the water soon as I can and report back. By the way, Brandon did a good job gutting the exhaust. The outlet pipe he put on sounds good, and looks pretty good, too. Once I get the paint on the little parts, wires cleaned up, and my carb cover built, this thing might actually look like I like it, even though it is a briggs.

Over a month to grab some oil and get Brandon to weld the exhaust up. At the rate y'all are going better start throwing decoys out now and you might have it done by opening day

Ugh, still have some tuning to do to get the carb right. Everything else is in order (cam solved the issue). Ran out of patience and daylight this evening. Gonna swap the pilot (im pretty sure i know exactly where to go with it) and main (still have some work there, unless I guess right tomorrow with the next swap), then dunk it again tomorrow after work, or this weekend, and include the air fuel meter this time. If this carb is gonna work, I'll know with the next trip out on the water. Ultimately, I think I've got an engine that's gonna turn way more rpms than I wanted, and ill play with props to keep the revs from getting too stupid.

Didn't go boom but no more experimenting. Won't spin up enough with the current fueling choice, so I'm moving on to a more proven carb for this season. Gonna run it one more time to get the air fuel ratio (forgot my meter this afternoon), then pull it off. Will put his carb on my father's stock engine for now. I'll revisit during the split when I have more time, or after the season before I sell this motor.

That carb might work on a stocker with very mild work but might not be big enough for a built motor.

Update: 42hsr came in. Experiment over for the time being. The 36 is on my father's stock engine, quite an upgrade for that. Much better hole shot than stock carb, no more info than that, though, as he doesn't have a tach.

Anyways, back to the build... engine spins up under load no problem. No solo speeds yet, but 32 with 2, same with 2 and 200 decoys, 25 with 4 and gear, 5 is just a hair too much for it to plane out, but it's still over 15. Got some jet adjustments to do, I believe. Most important thing at this point to me is that she's holding together, running pretty well, and ultimately getting me where I ask it to go.

It's not complete, but duck season arrived this morning, so as of yesterday, any tinkering went on hold, cept for playing with a jet or two based on what the af tells me when I get home Monday or tuesday.

great to hear. hope things stay together and perform for you. a friend of mine and one of the regulars on here had just the opposite, an unexpected parts failure out of the blue. hope he gets it figured out and up and running again soon with minimum down time. any help i can offer just ask.

On a side note: does anyone have a spare Briggs 35 block for sale?
