 MB 5500 Black Death
I'm new to the mud motors and really duck boats in general. Looking for my first duck boat and mud motor. I found a guy selling a 2013 Mud Buddy 5500 Black Death with around 90 hours on it for about $5500. Can anyone tell me anything about these motors? HP? Would it push a 17-18 foot boat pretty well? Also would it be a good motor to go with? Thanks for the time and any advice is appreciated!

 Re: MB 5500 Black Death
Yes it will push a 17-18 foot boat good but I wouldn't put it on a Ranger bass boat. Lol... Duel carbs can be a bitch though. What boat do you plan on putting it on?

 Re: MB 5500 Black Death
No, not on a 5500. The 5500 is a 45mag with a mikuni. The 7000 is the one with dual carbs, and pretty sure I saw duals on a 6000 at one point, but could've just been an add on.

 Re: MB 5500 Black Death
Here's where were both right and I'm also wrong. A 5500 black death (which is what he asked about) does have twin carbs. My bad Krazo. I wasn't referring to that one. Apologies op, ignore my response in reference to the wrong engine.

 Re: MB 5500 Black Death
I'm not 100% sure about which boat. I really like the layout of the Excel and Prodigy boats.

 Re: MB 5500 Black Death
Yeah. Well if that's the case you need to do some reading because there is really no comparing those two boats. Use the search button on here and read. Or google your question and Type mud motor talk after the question. You will find plenty of reading material. Good luck!

 Re: MB 5500 Black Death
Yeah. I've read quite a bit on here. Seems like it's a 50/50 shot as to the opinion of the Excel boats. Someone told me today the Excels are ribbed on the bottom which is a turn off for me cause of the stumps we hunt in. Are the Prodigy boats flat? And if you have any other advice on Prodigy feel free to add on. Thanks.

 Re: MB 5500 Black Death
Prodigy builds some jam up custom rigs, look on here and the enet. You will learn allot, as for Prodigy I have one of the originals, and I'm still super satisfied. Yes on the flat bottom aswell.

 Re: MB 5500 Black Death
If you run stumps go with prodigy and think about 3/16 bottom.

 Re: MB 5500 Black Death
Have photos of the motor for sale? I bought the first run of Black Death 5500 with twin mikuni for $8400 tall transom. No problems with the twin mikunis. Most are running the single mikuni now.

 Re: MB 5500 Black Death
I have heard the twins are quirky. What are the pros/cons for twins vs the single mikuni?

 Re: MB 5500 Black Death
Wrong. You should buy 6 alumacraft .070 hulls. Keep spares at the boat ramp and swap out as needed. Save money.
