Now that asshat Dean is outta here maybe some of the knowledgeable folks can come back and actually add sum input to this once great site! But anyway, just got a Innovate LM-2 AFM and was wondering if its best to tune it under a load on the water or can this be done while sitting on the trailer?

How about your idle and mid range circuits C.b :?:

I do it all in the water, except for idle. Set idle by touch more than with the meter.

I'm no carb guru by any stretch of the imagination, but I'm looking for a smooth transition from circuit to circuit more than anything else. Two distinct needle transitions and then onto the main. I try to make those transitions as smooth as possible while keeping afr in a range I'm comfortable in.

And if that was some kind of loaded question, I don't do work for other people, nor do I tell others what jets to run in their motors so don't have to worry bout me telling people the wrong way to do it. I just learn as I go. It surely can't be any worse than I'd do without the meter.

With that being said what is the best AFR to try and tune to for best power and longevity? 12.1-13.5? Just starting with tuning since I just installed my cam.

Cb has the best answer! At risk of starting a war i will say your looking for mid to low 12s under high load and low to mid 13s at lighter load. 10 different people will be 10 different answers. Your idling around needs to been done by feel since o2 prob isnt gonna work down low.

Err on the side of running rich so you are set up once for all temps and loads- its an air cooled engine. As CB said, the smooth transition off idle is what I was going for and then used the meter to set mid and main jet. I shot for a Lambda reading between 0.85 and 0.90.

Get some Velcro straps and put it on your wiring so you can secure it to your motor while running. Also I found it helpful to secure the meter in the boat while running (Velcro on back of unit so it stayed where I could see it while driving ).

How the hell do you know if you're ok if you don't have an AFM?
