 first mud motor
I'm in the market for my first mud motor.I will be putting this on my 1954 prodigy which include all 3/16,hunt deck, and an open layout plan.I would like to ask yalls experience about getting an already modded 36hp Prodrive motor with auto reverse.I would like to have auto reverse but i see the majority having ratchet reverse, does it really make a time difference that much? If i was to buy one, what would I have to look for besides rust, compression, and etc for modded motors. Please can yall help me out,im not very mechanically inclined.Thank you very much for your time.

 Re: first mud motor
As far as i heard the auto reverse only takes a few seconds to spin around. A modded 36 should do great on that boat

 Re: first mud motor
Yes, the new auto reverse, is MUCH faster than the ratchet reverse. Auto takes about 1.5-2 seconds to spin around.
You will be happy with the motor for sure.

 Re: first mud motor
I'm pretty sure someone timed theirs, did some work to make it faster than stock, and said it was 2.4 seconds. Something like that. Don't remember the details, but the number stuck for some reason.

 Re: first mud motor
I used to think that full power, ratchet reverse was dumb after watching my buddy ratchet it around just to back up a little. But this year he let me drive it and that full power reverse is nice. Picks the whole rear end of the boat up. Still sucks having to stop and ratchet it everytime you want to back up, but we went with another guy with the auto reverse and it didn't take his long to spin around. Still wouldn't trade my Gator tail for one though.

 Re: first mud motor
Hell of a first rig... Another thing to consider if you decide to go with ratchet reverse on a pd is a pin puller. It doesn't make the ratcheting any quicker, but it does help because you don't have to reach around to the side of the motor.

 Re: first mud motor
I agree, if you got the coin definitely go with auto reverse.. ^^ and this guy definitely knows his stuff. He's been here since "back in the day"

 Re: first mud motor
Good points! But I don't frog by myself, never have, and its no fun by yourself! and running crab traps, I can just pull along side the trap, and keep it in gear and have the boat go in circles. Doing this with a Stick steer, of course. I loved my center console, but work had other ideas I also pm'd Jesse. Im hoping he helps me out, cause he had the stick steer and he went back to tiller...
