Has anyone tried to advance or retard there camshafts for performance gains? There's 70 teeth on the cam so it could go a little over 5 degrees either way....

On a stock cam?
What a pain in the ass that would be when you could buy a performance cam with more lift and duration plus advanced timing. It's not that hard to swap the cam but not worth jacking around with a stock cam while you have it apart plus the case gasket is $30 I think.

Too far, one tooth is 10.28 degrees and not worth messing with the stock cam, better off with a proven grind. You can advance the ignition timing easier and gain a little by either using advance timing keys on the flywheel or removing the key and using a timing light and lock it down. If it is a CDI, it will help on the bottom some but not much until the advance in the coils kick in around 2200rpm.

10 4 I was just curious if it could or had been done. Over 10 degrees would probly have some valve to piston clearance issues

People have re-broached the timing gear on the crank for different advance settings. I believe this is how the original cam timing advance cams were developed.
