Ok I've seen the threads from stualaska and the turbo Briggs and seen numerous threads on case gasket leaks. There is also the rocker arm stud issue with certain cams. What I'm getting at is Briggs and Stratton is making a block that just can't handle the power we want out of our mud motors. I have gathered from my own experience and MMT threads that most would like the reliable performance of an outboard of 50-75hp that can handle the conditions that any of the top mm manufacturers can handle.

Why hasn't someone made an aftermarket block for these motors???????!

Why hasn't someone made an aftermarket set of heads for these motors??????


Y'all tell me I'm not very keen on marketing manufacturing or where the market is to make this possible but I'm tired of wondering why nobody has tried to take the specs from a big block Briggs and make an improved aftermarket block with a case cover worth a shit and support to make sure a rotating assembly can turn the rpms needed to make power without producing a oily hole in the side of the case.


Sbc has the dart little m block those of you who know what that is understand what I mean. Those of you who don't please don't ninja this thread until I get an answer.

I would bet nobody wants to go through the R and D to build one. And after they built one everyone but about .05% of us would bitch about the price.

I've seen where someone made a billet kohler block maybe? And it made it through a few races then blew to pieces.

I guess if you had a cnc mill, a lot of time, a lot of money and a shit pot load of aluminum you could do it but I wouldn't hold my breath on that.

N LA you have touched on a couple of the questions I had.

1. Would the cost of this aftermarket block be astronomical since the market for them would be only mud motors and hopefully mower/cart racers?

2. How man designs would those developing this block trash or see fail before there is one suitable for production and what would the cost be?

3. This hasn't been brought up but what would briggs think once it was produced? Would there be any legal aspects since it is basically a heavy duty version of the briggs? There may be legal fees associated with this aspect of producing one.

4. I am not familiar with CNC work at all but common sense tells me that an aftermarket CNC set of heads would be easier to produce first. The person producing them could test the market and answer some of the questions there are with making an aftermarket block.

I'm not joking around about this I would just like some answers to some of this because its been in the back of my head for a long time. MMT has a very diverse group of members and I ask for some of your knowledge with my questions cause I'm sure there are a couple of CNC operators, machinists, and attorneys on here that could inform me some of the reasons this could or could not be something we see in the future.

The heads I don't sweat as much, just weld them up and roll. Anyone done preventative welding on a block, gussets between cylinders?

the reason that their is no 'super block' being made is that there is no money in it for briggs.
they sell millions of engines every year for lawnmowers. mudmotors are just a niche market to them.

they would lose their azz on it.

sooner or later somebody will build a better engine for these things.

usually welding up a block only weakens it somewhere else, at least that was my findings when we tried it on 4 wheeler motors years ago.

I think they said somewhere in the 12-14k range for that engine. Maybe they were talking about another and that was the one at 8, but not sure.

I am betting that the crank was the weak link there... The shitty cover was just secondary grenade aftermath. That is a sweet ass motor. Did anyone else checkout the making of the brute?
