Post subject:  Mikuni Carb Help

Maybe some of you guys can help. My carb on 1 engine (running dual 35hp gatortails). Is giving me fits. I know it's the carb and I have even switched the carbs to the other engine to verify it. The engine will not start unless I give it a lot of throttle and keep the rpms 2800-3500. And then sometimes the engine will all of a sudden rev way up for about 15 seconds. I am also getting a lot of white smoke and the engine was spitting gas out the air filter but I think I have that part fixed.

I have cleaned the jets, changed out the needle and seat and verify that it is seating by blowing through the fuel inlet. I have cleaned the insides of the carb. I have even changed out the jets with the other engines jets. I'm at a loss right now.

Like I said I have changed the carbs out between the engines and the problems follow the bad carb. My current engine setup is 35hp gatortails with Mikuni carbs and gutted exhaust. And everything was running fine until I let them setup to long without being run. Then I cleaned the carb and everything ran fine for a day or so.

Thanks for any help you guys might be able to offer.

The 2 things i would be looking at.. the tiny oring aound the brass seat can dry rot dumping too much fuel bypassing the needle/seat combo... 2 the main jet needle can come loose and float upwards when running dumping fuel. Remove top of carb and inspect that the needle is held down Inside the slide. From what you describe it sounds like its dumping fuel

I live in Huntsville but I got mad messing with the carb over the last couple of weeks so I just broke down and ordered a new replacement.
