Hey guys. Plan on buying a boat and motor used, it's looking like. I'm just not familiar with how many hours are these motors lasting stock? And with mods? How many hours is too many? I just don't want to end up with someone's problem. Thanks for any input. |

if you're buying used, it's almost always somebody else's piece of shitin some way or another. Some of these motors last 100 hours and we have some guys on here with 3,000 or more hours. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Aside from the obvious dice roll,,, i would stay away from older pds with the factory style case gasket and any piston/rod motors as i have seen alot of block and rear case failures,, i think they are not balanced. This is only one guys opion as im sure there are many |

It's a case-by-case thing. I buy a new motor and sell every two years, so the buyer has one year of warranty left. The guy who bought my 2013 is buying my 2015 as well; we joke that we're on a lease/buyback program. He gets a significant discount on a stock motor that is only run in freshwater and vegetation with a warranty and about 115hrs of use, and I get to have the peace of mind that I'm not going to miss time during a 60-day season and have to deal with warranty repairs when there isn't a GTR factory repair center within 4 hours of me. He knows how well I take care of my stuff so when I offer a motor he jumps all over it for asking price, and we've both been happy. |
