My brothers 23 gdlt is getting a run through. This motor was the first tour boat motor my dad ran for a couple thousand hours then was adopted by my brother. 3 years ago it got a quick fix up with deburring the ports, lapped the valves, not even a real valve job, a golfcart cam we just recently speced at 235/239@.050 110lobe sep that was running straight up at 110 intake cl. It got a turbo mounted up and ecotrons fi. The turbo lasted about 30 min while roughing in the tune then the bearings died from not enough oil. Turbo came off and the fi stayed. Thin headgaskets went on and 30deg of timing. To start it required hitting the key and pulling the rope at the same time. On 1654 weldbuilt and 9x6 prop it ran 23 steady with some saying 25. I say 23mph. It was very strong even off idle he would jump out on me every time. This time its getting real headwork, .020 new pistons and rods . And cleaning up this and that.
I will post updates on the build. It will be ready for caddo. It wont be "Huck" fast but wanting 25+

We need to take some tune out of that thing. Even running that slow, the group got separated. I'll never understand how we can't keep it together running 18-20mph.

Finally got the valves , we went a little bigger, 3 angles , backcut the valves, decked .040, polished the chambers and got them on the shortblock. Nothin like last minute

He showed up to caddo on friday about 2. We added oil, added 10% to the fuel map, fired it and did a short cam break in on the trailer, changed oil. On the first run i paced him at 25 down the river. He was not being nice to the motor. Thats on a Backwater inc 9x6 prop. There is no tach but twisted up pretty good. He said it felt a little faster after the run sat morning "rings seating". The 23 does like mods. This one needs the fuel dialed in and a decent exhaust but pretty good for a longtail.
