Post subject:  What motor

I just bought a 1544 with a hunt deck from gator trax and a 25 kohler mudbuddy hd, should be done end of July early august I was just searching around and noticed that the 35 hd mudbuddy is about 600 more than the 25 what is the weight difference and performance wise what's the difference between the two. I'm almost contemplating upgrading to the 35 if it's not to late
Thanks

Weight difference is gonna be the weight of the kohler vs the Briggs. Maybe 20 lbs or So? I haven't looked then up. The frame difference is negligible

On a normal flatback transom that boat might get some water over transom. Add some weight back there to see if your rig will hang out with the extra weight. I think russ is right on the 20 lbs difference wich isnt too much but a 1544 with a 35hd on it..... not sure if it works??

It'll do, but both of them will squat. Have put a good bit of time on a 1546 with a 27 mini (lighter than an HD) and it squats. It's not squirrelly, and doesn't take water over the transom, but it does squat a good bit.

What speeds should I see with the 25 vs the 35

At least 30 with the 25, probably 40 plus with the 35.

Maybe low 20s solo with the 25, about 2-3 mph more with the 35 on that boat. As you add weight, it'll drop of significantly.

With the hunt deck it will be about 16'8" I think

Speeds won't change very much with the 25, add a mph or 2 with the 35, but it won't squat as bad.

Thanks Russ I appreciate it I'll probably stick with the 25 I don't want to squat just looking to get a hunting load in and out and do some fishing

You will be kicking yourself in the ass everyday after you get the boat if you go with the 25..

I was just doing some reading and I was reading the same thing as far the 25, it looks like some guys 44bd on that hull so are you saying the 35 is a better option?

Post subject:  Re: What motor

Everyone will say the 35 is the better option. Unless you hunt hp restricted areas of course.
Whats 20 lbs? Not shit really. the 44bd is the same 35 block, its no heavier. Go with the 35 now, or you will be taking a loss on the 25 trying to sell it to buy a 35 later anyways
