Post Shift Switch Cooked on HD 4500BD
2013 MB HD 4500 BD, Shift switch wires are melted, switch does not work. Motor has a 15A Circuit breaker. MB says to increase breaker size to 20A, and BPS says it's not the breaker, it may be the switch itself, a short, or bad ground. The football has always ran hot, but yesterday was almost to hot to hold onto. Why is there too much power going to the switch, enough to melt the connector? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

switch terminals losen from vibration build heat when the football is hot like that its time to replace the switch, ive had to replace a few on every one of the 5 motors ive had. put new ring connectors on a new switch and keep on truckin says Ronbow

Is there no upgrade for this? If it's such a common malfunction, why doesn't MB offer an upgrade? Not trying to sound like an asshole. I'm just curious.

I'm sure there are better quality switches that can be used, possibly even run one size larger gauge wiring. It's a simple circuit, and electrical stuff follows some basic rules. Keep all the connections clean, tight, and run the 20A, you may not have another issue. We run these motors and neglect simple maintenance, which results in these issues.

to clairafy, the terminals are riveted to the switch that is what lossens while running with clutch engaged the heat builds from the loose terminal vibrating where they are on the switch, I always carry an extra says Ronbow

I do too, ronbow. Learned a long time ago it was a necessity unless I wanted to rewire everything, and get out the soldering gun. Or pay a lot more for a better switch

A relay would work long as you get one that would handle the current draw. Then the switch would not be carrying such a large load.
