Post stock 35 fine tuning
I have read a ton on here and other sites and have been trying for 2 days after work and can not get the damn thing to idle right. Motor sat for a long time before I inherited it so I put fresh oil ,all fresh filters, all new fuel lines, cleaned the tank, new carb, and fuel pump. Running good now but idles at 2100 rpms, I try adjusting based off what I have been reading and then it wide open on and on. One extreme to the other so I have given up, is anyone near the Baton Rouge area able to help me out or know someone/somewhere that knows what they're doing? Thanks ahead of time.

Make sure your throttle cable has about 1/8" slack before pulling it open while the engine is running.
Make sure your WOT Governor screw isn't all the way screwed in. (it will cause a high idle condition)
Set your idle with the idle stop screw to about 1150-1200 and enjoy.

Do you have the governed idle spring? If so the tab that you bend to set the idle also needs to be set right. For mine I turned the Governor screw all the way in then back out a hair so that I could get mad OOW rpms, but also didn't raise low end idle, then I used the idle screw on the front of the motor and set it at ~1225. Once it sat at that point, I put the covered idle spring on but it ran my RPMS to like 3100 so I went to bending the tab until it dropped back down to match the 1225 idle screw speed. Now it idles like a champ.

My governor spring and the small spring on the governed idle tab are really loose when throttle is not pressed at all. Are they suppose to be or should they be tight? The governor screw is about half way not screwed all the way in. Thanks

I can't see the picture, but take the governed idle spring off and see where your motor is naturally idling at. Once you use the front screw to set a good idle (~1200 and make sure the motor has warmed up for a few mins before tinkering) then put he governed idle spring back on and set the spring. If you put it on and it doesn't make any difference, then go ahead and bend the tab to raise the RPMs. Find get it to just barely increase your idle spring, then bend the tab back a hair to make it basically match your idle.

I'll have to look at mine, but I don't think it should be too lose at all when the motor is on. It should be tight enough to prevent the motor from dropping much at all when the clutch is engaged or when you go from idling in open water to vegetation.

And you keep saying it's idling at 2100 rpms. If that's the case and your governed idle spring is lose, then it would have to be either the idle screw on the front of the motor, OR the governor screw is in a hair too tight.

Take the governed idle spring off at first, and try bringing the idle screw on the front of the motor down about 1/4 turn and it should drop about right. If it still won't get low enough after some turning, then it is likely your governor screw.

maxxis is near opelousas, blueshamu is in prairieville. the first owns bayou surface drives, the second is just a fellow mud motor guy that's pretty familiar with stock carbs. send them a pm and see if you can get hands on help.

He got it running Monday Evening. I Explained him a few things to check. Seemed to be too much tension on the Gov idle spring with the throttle cable aswell. Idles about 1150 currently.

I know this is an older thread, but I'm running into the same issue and its driving me crazy. I'm going to try this this afternoon when I get off.
