Post subject:  Go Devil 23 Custom Exhaust Build

Built a custom exhaust for my 23 Go Devil Longtail. I see a lot of guys who look for affordable exhausts, so i figured i would share what i did. I cut the stock exhaust off at the manifold (left about an inch of the 1 inch piping off of the manifold). We then welded an inch and a half pipe about 4 inches long onto the manifold that we tapered to inch and 3/4s. we then put the mufflers on (walker exhaust resonators, 12 inch, 2 inch inlet, 2 inch outlet) onto the inch and 3/4 piping and welded it together. After that, we added some 2 inch exhaust tips and bolted it to the frame with two rubberized brackets to reduce vibration noise. The total build cost me about 85 bucks and I had the welding done at Midus in Houma by John, who does excellent fabrication work. The mufflers can be ordered from auto zone for about 16 bucks a piece.

I saw about a 2mph difference in performance and a little more torque when going through thick stuff. We did a GPS on it before and after. Before, we were doing 18-19 with two people and two ice chests. We did the GPS after and were going 20-21. By myself I ran 21 and now run 23. I'm running it on a 1440 ouchita.

Figured you guys would like to see this option if you are on a budget and want something unique that gives you some good little gains and sound.

Hahahahahaha thanks man, I bet they would lol I based the design off the little inboard boats I see running around and figured, if it could work for a small onboard, it should work for a longtail lol

What does doing all that result in? Did u have to do it bc of mods to the engine or???
Does the motor run a lot better w those exhausts?
Just wondering how much you can get out of a 23.
Thx

I originally decided to go with a custom exhaust after my buddy put a voodoo on his GTR. It sounded great and he saw some changes on the top end. I also noticed in my go devil that when I was running wide open, it sounded very restricted, so I decided to do a performance exhaust on it. Once I saw the price of the performance exhausts (400-500 range), I decided to design my own based off of the performance exhausts on in board boats with small engines. I did a little research and decided that, for the price, the above set up would be the best for my boat.

Once we finished it, i immediately noticed a big difference in sound and my little 23 did not sound like it was restricted anymore. We did a gps before and after. Before, our gps with two people and two ice chests was between 18-19. After the exhaust build we were at 20-21. My gps with just me in my boat was 21. By myself after the exhaust, my gps was at 23, which I was very pleased with for a 23 longtail, granted my boat is small (1440), but I was still very happy with those numbers.

All in all, the exhaust was mainly done for a performance aspect as well as for something unique. To me, the 85 dollar total cost for the project is definitely justified by gaining 2mph on the top end and a lot less restriction.

My target is 25 mph by myself in my boat. My next additions are sharpening and cupping the prop, going with a higher flow air filter (possible custom air intake build), and some bigger injectors on my carbs, and then see where I am at on my gps.

No problem bro, I have the parts details in the original post if you decide to do one yourself or have a friend who wants To make one. In my opinion, it's definitely worth the 85 bucks for the gains, the unique factor, and the good sound.
