 Re: Pro Drive Maintenance
Note: By not useing the Factory Oil Filter you can void your warrenty.
There is a check valve in them that doesnt allow the oil to bleed down form te system when its not running.

Added: Be sure to check all engine bolts.
I lost 3 yesterday and caused a nasty oil leak. Thankfully no damage done and back on the water.

 Re: Pro Drive Maintenance
Picked up a few oil filters and found that Stens makes a replacement oil filter for B &S. Found this during my search using the Briggs part number. At least the filters are still made in the USA Stens 120-485 replaces Briggs-492932S

 Re: Pro Drive Maintenance
On the new PD lower units, what is the new silver allen head screw about halfway up the lower unit? This wasn't on the old drives. Is this another place to add LU oil?
FYI - Don't forget to grease the fittings for the FPR under the velcro'd clutch cover. Also check all the bolts/screws on the hydraulic trim unit. There is a screw on the backside of the hydraulic motor that should be checked too.

 Re: Pro Drive Maintenance
Wix oil filter is 57035 not 51348. Crossed it with the Briggs 492932S after seeing the 1348 was too small.

 Re: Pro Drive Maintenance
Will that K&N air filter (e-4665) work for the 36hp pro drive?
Because it looks a little smaller.

Really good info. My owners manual has info on the unit, but nothing on the actual engine.

 Re: Pro Drive Maintenance
I have been trying to read and find the appropriate procedure for breaking in a new Pro Drive. What I am trying to figure out is hard to push it for how long. The best I have found is shorter runs at less than full load for the first 5-10 hours. THere is a lot of room for interpretation on this, especially on a modded motor right out of the box.
Is there a target RPM, that is a standard comfortable range to use during the break in period? Say 3800 RPM's, max 4000 RPM's for the first 10 hours? Just curious as to what some of the guys that give a chit are doing. Thx in advance. I would imagine with the mods I am going to do, the top RPM range will be 4250 trimmed appropriately...

Here's a rookie question... On a console steer PD or GTR will the motor kick up if It hit something like a tiller handle will?

 Re: Pro Drive Maintenance
How much play can you have on the down shaft of a pro-drive. I am sitting at 1/16-1/18 of an inch. Is this acceptable? Seems like it is taking a lot of grease.

 Re: Pro Drive Maintenance
The play is most likely in the clutch but you should be fine
