Post subject:  Clank coming from engine when cold????

So, took the boat out for a little scouting this weekend. Started her up no problem and she gives a single violent clank and I see a spark from behind the cowling(cover). This has happened multiple times with the prop in or out of the water. Once it warms up it usually never happens again and she runs fine all day, but every once and awhile it does. Anyone have any idea what it is? It sounds really bad but it can't be too serious because it runs good after. Its a 23hp van MBLT with PVT valve stems, spring shims, thin head gaskets, K&N cone filter(no box). She runs 3800-4000 RPM max.

The only time I saw something like this was on a prodrive that the rear cover was dancing around and making flywheel hit the coils. Pull your shroud and check for coil contact to flywheel. Maybe your rear crank bearing is mad and letting the crank dance

Also many longtails will clank on startup from shaft whip. This would not explain the sparks though

Coil contact explains the spark real good. So my crank bearing might be bad??? Right before duck season
