Break-in Procedure for GTR XD 37EFI
Just ordered a new GTR XD 37EFI from Cooper River Marine in Moncks Corner, SC. Those guys are awesome. Bought my new Havoc from them last year and treated me good. Kevin gave me his personal cell phone and has gone above and beyond. Great Guy.
But I have looked around the forum and internet trying to find a proper break-in procedure for this motor and cant seem to find one thats right. One guy says give her hell and change the oil for the first 10 hours, another says dont give it everything shes got for the first 5-10 hours. Looking for some guidance.

Vary RPM during the first few hours. If you got some curvy bayous to run, those are the best places. Getting on and off the throttle seems to help set things into place. Don't baby it. Change the oil and filter after 10 ish hours, check valve lash.

Re: Break-in Procedure for GTR XD 37EFI
What not to do on a new one is load it heavy and hold it wide open for long periods. This year Ive seen 2 different rigs that got run hard with no oil change until near 40hrs. Both had a little more leakdown in cylinders than they should have. 1 was a smallblock 2 or 3 yrs old but on original oil because the label says change at 50hrs. It had multiple oil leaks in unusual places. My vote is be nice for the first 10hrs. Sure you can run it wide open, just dont hold it there all day. Change oil around 10hrs

Ducktank23 I live in Bonneau, I just got the same motor from Southeast Gator Tail, They are doing my 10 hour service FREE labor I just pay for parts. Only have 6.1 HRS now. They say don't hammer down for the first few hours kind of take it easy. I would be easy for the first 10 hours better safe than sorry. You gonna love that motor. It has been brought to my attention from a lot of mud motor people that Southeast Gator Tail are by far the best people to work on your new motor. If you would like I will give you their contact information.

Re: Break-in Procedure for GTR XD 37EFI
I just purchased the XD last week and the dealer told me for the first 2 hrs do not hold WOT for longer than 5mins at a time and vary rpms but definitely give it some WOT. Also I’m sure you have seen it but there is a video for the XD on maintenance from Gator tail on YouTube. And you can find a video on YouTube about valve lash that is on a Briggs but I haven’t seen one that was an actual mud motor.

This forum has just become people trying to find subtle ways to announce what they bought.

Wow flint87 you got me. Sure would hate people to give me bad advice because they dont know what kind of motor I have.
But I bought a 1656 Havoc DBST and a 50hp Tohatsu but Im trading in the outboard for my new GTR XD 37 EFI. Just thought Id announce what I bought ya know. Next time you feel the need to post unnecessary comments, dont.

It was a 30 year loan. Down payment was $100. My payment is $12 a month.
And it was a flip phone actually. The new Razor.
I like how everybody on this site is an asshole lol

I often wonder how people break-in their new riding and push mowers?
