I hear from a very reliable source that a true 50 Horse EFI is coming next year. We are talking about a new engine ( not a Brigs made to 50 ) I bet its the Japs, getting into the market. A true light wight 50 would be nice ( from both MB & GT )
Thoughts ??

A friend of mine who is very close to one of the Big Boys . His lower unit Failed, and told them he was ordering a new 70 hrs ( Boss ) they said ( hold on ) sent him a brand new lower unit next day air ( it was out of warranty) and said trust me we will have a new All new true 50 EFI next year sure ( but they could not say by who )
Again , I don't know if this is true or not ( But it would be nice ) Look what the Japanese have done with motor cycles . My guess is it will come from them ( Not Brigs )

love it, hopefully it fits a direct powerhead swap for our frames!

It's still a f'n lawnmower engine. Need MUCH better technology for these things and its funny how no big name company (mercury, yamaha, Honda, etc) won't at least try something.

Briggs has done some work to theirs, with the exhaust pulled off it makes 47hp. I think they're 40 or 42 with stock exhaust. They haven't made it to our frames yet, but they're being tested by some of the manufacturers. I don't know what all changes they've made to the existing engines to get that power.

What they need is similiar to this outboard I'm have. Dame PD weighs 335lbs and this yamaha 70 weighs 225. They need an air cooler outboard power head and the rest will be history.

Both MB & GT are going to have to do something to differ them self's from the others . A 35 hr is becoming very Generic. And people like myself ( old farts ) are not looking for a 35 Brigs made into a 50 hr. We are looking for more power to move a boat faster then 8 MHP ( for safety ) 12 or 15 on plane is all we need. With a 17 /60 with a permanent blind, 75 decoys , 2 men and a dog. The boat is a PIG ( Yes I know I should run a 75 OB, but if there is a stump on the river I aways find it

I came close to pulling the trigger on a new motor this year, but it was hard to justify a very little gain in performance over my current 35 gtr except for e- reverse and a longer out drive. I will be waiting to see if this plays out for next year. It would definitely make my boat more usable for hauling bigger loads and fishing.

Why bother with a 50 hp when you could get a 75 hp hoss

Boys , I think I was wrong on this, if MB or GT was coming out with something new, I think it would be out of the bag by now. Thoughts ???

I know Yamaha released a V-twin vertical but its a small block , and it makes power for what the specs are on it.

So where is the Harley Davidson SD???? I seen one dyno'd 5000 RPM 215 MPH @ 140 HP+/-,,,I think it was around 125 CI(thats over 2000CC vs Briggs 993). So WTH?

Post subject:  Re: New True 50 HR EFI

That starts potentially becoming an issue with epa requirements. Anything over 1k cc could eventually be required to meet the same emissions standards outboards or atvs have to meet. Plus, cooling a Harley engine on a mud motor has its own issues lol

No rims and no probably closer to 1/4. Put the boat togethet myself 6 yrs ago. Prices have gone thru the the roof on these lawn motor boats since then.
