Post 35 gdsd Performance question
I have a 2011 35 gdsd on a 16/60 gd Hull. With just me in it in will fly. Get 3 guys in it and some gear and I’d be surprised if I got 10 mph out of it. Motor sounds like I’m only half throttle but I’m holdin it wide open. Am I expecting too much thinking it should do more and perform better? This is my first sd and I know nothing about em

Sounds typical of an engine that's a little tired. Probably needs heads freshened up and a tune.

That sounds expensive. I’m taking it to a mechanic after the holidays to have him check it out. I hope it isn’t anything too rough. My fat ass is broke from Christmas

What rpms are you turning with that load? You should be seeing low 20s with that load in my opinion.

I have that same rig...however I have a front casting seat and rear poling platform with a GDSD 35. It is rare for me to get more than 26 mph with me and two fellows in this particular rig.

However...as it is a GDSD boat and Mud Motor...(I am not as concerned about speed....but RELIABILITY)...and as it is a GDSD 35, it will get you where you need to go- and get you back to the ramp at the end of your hunt day....without all the bells and whistles of other types of motors , and you just need to remember that the word "RELIABLITY" is a mighty nice thing to always have whenever you go out into the backcountry to hunt or fish.

That is what GDSD Rigs provide. Realibility. Peace of Mind as you are headed out to fish or over to the duck blind.

COCO doesn't give me any break, he is a good fellow, and I have dealt with him over many years, and when I order something from his shop, and I talk to him or Mr. Charles his chief mechanic; I always get a solid and responsive reply to my questions. As I am not a mechanic, I often ask members on MMTalk about issues as well and that helps answer many questions I might encounter.... however I do know that I trust these particular Mud Motors- above all others sold across the nation.

There are a lot of differnt brands running all over the nation, and all have their good points and customer service issues or concerns. My bottom line is how reliable is a product, how good is their customer service. You got to always do maintance to keep your rig running well. Run non-ethanol fuel always, yet it still helps to put in some "sea-foam" occassionally.

IMHO...as I have been running these units- since 2003, all over the USA- in the salt and back country, and up in the timber I got to tell you loud and clear that I am happy with mine; however I "always ensure" that regular- maintance is done- on my rig- every six months; wheither it is neccessary or not, and I always do a "leak down" test to ensure compression is up to speed.

Hope you might find this information helpfull to you.

Kind regards throughout these holiday and into the new year.

I had this same rig for a little while. Yes, it is the fastest gdsd rig when the load is very light, although it is also the slowest with a heavy load. My thoughts are it is too short. Yes it is wide, but it is too short to disperse the weight. I now have an 18/44 that handles a load WAY better. Everyone I have spoke to that is familiar with the 16/60 says the same.thinc

Thanks guys. I installed a tach and messed with the rpms and haven't tested it under the same load again to see what it will do. I love the go devil brand as I owned a 23 longtail for many years . Mr. Coco had helped me many times with that rig. I know it needs a little attention since I bought it used and plan to have it looked over and everything set to specs. I don't expect to break any speed records , I just felt like it shoulda handled even a heavy load better than 10 mph. I think I'm headed in the right direction. Thanks fellas
