ok so i bought this prodrive used. it is an early 2000 model. manual reverse. just recently during the last two hunts it has ran fine for about 10 min then it would lose power, if i pump the ball it would regain power and run fine. now it wont stay running at all. i have changed fuel lines, ball and fuel pump. only thing i havent done yet is clean the carb. just wanted some input before i tear it down. thanks

Clean carb thoroughly.

clean the carb, adjust the float. sounds like it's emptying the bowl and the fuel pump cant keep up. since you've replaced the fuel pump, it could be gunk in that passage.

Pay particular attention to the fuel shut off solenoid, they really get gummed up.

Well I got the carb cleaned up which it really wasn't dirty and its still doing it. I have to choke it every time to start it . it will die as soon as I take it off choke

How about bubbles/air leaks in your fuel filter?

Just checked and the fuel pump is definitely not pushing any fuel. Has to be something with the pulse line ??

When u clean carb also make sure to take the accelerator pump on the carb apart and clean it out. I have same motor with same problem. I changed all fuel components as well. Same problem still. Recleaned carb, taking apart the accelerator pump this time then Also the put a electric fuel pump on it and ran like a champ.

I also thought the pulse pump was weak, replaced that and was still the same. Put e fuel pump on it

I used Mr. Gasket 42S Electric Fuel Pump. $40 on Amazon. I believe Napa has one as well search forum for that part number. I assume ur fuel tank is in the front of ur boat?

Get a spare or make sure you have a primer bulb. Those pumps are good, but they give no warning when they're gonna die. The facets have a longer lifespan.

Should I bypass the original fuel pump? Also noticed it runs better with the pulse line disconnected from the old pump

One fuel pump only. Don't run 2.

Get a bolt, pull the fitting, plug the hole. That way you can always go back to it if you want to.

Went for a run and noticed it was stalling a bit when I tried to open it up to fast. Turned up the idea. Tiny tach is reading 2120 at idle. Is this speed OK/safe??

Post subject:  Re: 27 hp prodrive fuel issue

Not really. You need to idle around 1200-1600 (don't know what the manual calls for, though, but that's a good ballpark). If it's stumbling off idle, the carb needs tuning or upgrading. Read up on tuning carbs. The concepts are the same for most carbs, they just don't all look the same.

Haven't reported in a while. The Prodrive doesn't miss a beat now with the new fuel pump. Thanks again to everyone who helped out. About to upgrade to a bigger motor and boat [WINKING FACE]
