Motor decisions
Have a MB 45 mag rite now. Love the motor just want something a little newer and with reverse. Was leaning towards a boss drive 4400 Black Death. From everything Iv seen on here as well as other forums they seem to suck ass. Only good thing is the reverse. Everyone says it’s a toss up between GTR and MB. Definitely want EFI and reverse i know both offer those. Motor will be going on a 15’ or 16’ havoc boat. Any help is appreciated!!!!!

Re: Motor decisions
idk where you got that the boss sucked ass. The word is that they are just slower than the rest. Don't quote me, but I think willet said the boss picked up some speed once it was run for a while. why not go with a mudbuddy hdr, or GTR, or a PD? All have reverse.

Re: Motor decisions
On a boat that short, definitely check the weights. The less you put on the back the happier you'll be. All of those are heavier than your 45 mag.

Re: Motor decisions
Doesn't matter what brand motor you get, you put a load inside a 15ft havoc and they will all suck.

Re: Motor decisions
Thanks guys! Will most likely go with the new 37XD GTR on a 16’ havoc! Does anyone know what speeds a set up like that is running? My set up now pushes 33-34 with just me. 29-31 loaded down. I’d like to keep the speed ( not that i do much racing to the holes ) but still like to stay low 30’s

Re: Motor decisions
I'd guess between 22-24mph loaded down with a 2-3 man load. Maybe a hair more if you pack heavily.
Youre losing hp going to a GTR37 because it is a stock rig. You won't get the same speeds.

Re: Motor decisions
I could be wrong, but the 37efi will probably be about the same as a 45mag. When Efi was 1st coming out, it was said the Efi was equivalent to a carb Stage 1. Also the 45mag is mass produced BPS mods (not exactly sure what mods they have) but it isn't going to perform the same as "custom" mods

Re: Motor decisions
I'd say about 29-30 empty boat, 24-26 loaded. I'd also say you choice in motor is a good choice, but choice in boat, hmmmm, not so great.

Re: Motor decisions
Short boat, heavy motor not a good combo.

Re: Motor decisions
If you go 16ft, at least get something 54" or wider. My dad's boat is a 1652. It isn't bad, but could stand to be a little wider with the 35 on the back. My 1748 with 30ish hp on the back carried a 3man and gear load just as good as his did with a stock 35.
