Post Adding runners
There was an old thread a while ago where people were talking about adding runners to their boat. A couple people (Tenpoint was one of them, just to give you an idea how old the thread was) weighed in on how they liked runners on their boat and how the boat steered and tracked better.

Only down side was that it was harder to jockey the boat around in mud, or especially you were hung on a hard bottom.

I’m thinking I’d like to add some runners to my rig to help when running some small rivers. I’m very rarely in heavy mud.

Now, my problem is finding someone to add the runners. I don’t want to let just anybody add them, and I’m in MN so everything is far away.

Here is a pic of what I’m thinking.

What are your thoughts or experiences?

Do you ever run stumps? Sliding off stumps gets harder with runners. I hated them.

I don’t run stumps. We hop over some logs and stuff, but it’s all laying flat. Very rare that I’d have to slide off a stump or dead head.

Has anybody seen a negative effect on performance by having them? Other than sliding off stumps etc.

I used an 1848 square chine this hunting season that had one runner down the center. Started in the rake and ran about 1/2 way back. I loved it.

I want them added in a bad way. Just need to travel a long way for somebody to add them.

Check with Jake at backwater. They may know of a good welding shop nearby. They're up there in your state. I find it hard to believe Arlon has never broke a boat hitting a stump and needed a little aluminum welding lol

I may do that. Think they’d be seen working on a gatortail rig?

If done right, I could see these helping to break ice too--I wish I had a rib just on the rake portion of my bow like Prodigy does...

If you're anywhere near Winona, you may want to contact Gale Marine in Galesville, WI.

Do they do reputable work?

I haven’t heard of them, but I’m willing to drive a few hours to get them put on straight

I just checked out their website, they look pretty good. I’ll probably give them a shout.

I've never dealt with them personally, but I've heard good things.

And, if they're building complete boats, I'd be pretty confident in their ability to add runners.

No doubt.

Thanks for the heads up, I’d never seen them before.
