Do you need...
A water separator and a fuel filter?
I'm moving a line and adding a water separator and was wondering.
Your thoughts?

Re: Do you need...
Some say you need them, but I have never ran one or needed one. Good fuel is the main thing imo.

Probably not. It is just a lawn mower motor. Have you ever seen any more than a plastic inline filter on a lawnmower?
With that said, if you ever get contaminated fuel, a good Racor filter, or something similar, can't hurt.

Aluminum tank = yes to Racor water separator. Otherwise, no.

I been runn ing a 13 gal alum tank in da front of my skiff since before most of u people been alive. can't hurt, but I don't run a water separator. it's just another thing to hinder fuel flow, especially if u have a vacume fuel pump.

Aluminum tanks sweat when temps change rapidly. Keep it full and you'll more than likely be fine. I never had an issue with plastic tanks. But if there is minimal airspace for condensation then you will be ok.

Take it for what its worth but yes I will always run one. I have plastic tanks and this year I filled up at a gas station got to the water and unloaded and boat ran like chit. checked everything and had a 1/8 of a tank of water in both of my tanks. Now the gas statio n argued with me that it happened in my boat but I figure it was in there system.

Re: Do you need...
Tanks sweat when the relative humidity in the airspace of the tank reaches 100%. This happens when the temp of that air drops. Though it will happen slightly faster in an aluminum tank (since aluminum is a better conductor of heat than plastic), you will get exactly the same amount of sweat in both a plastic and a metal tank once they reach the same temp (again, it's just that aluminum will get there SLIGHTLY faster than plastic).
Leave any 1/2 filled plastic bottle of pop, water in a car over night with the cap on and you'll see how much they sweat with changes in the temp of the air inside the bottle

Re: Do you need...
If you are running a new EFI motor I would run a water separator type filter. Water in fuel injector pump will shorten its life and cut channels in the injectors. Might save you an expensive repair.
