Modus v4 surface drive
Was up. I'm new to the site but have some news that is probably already known. I got me an email back from motus saying there are several companies coming out with a motus v4 suface drive mud motor. He did say he's not sure if any of these companies have come out the closet yet. That's not a quote but round about what he said lol. There is a video titled black widow that shows some kind of a prototype. Peace out.

Re: Modus v4 surface drive
would be nice if one of these higher HP engines were tiller steer friendly.

Re: Modus v4 surface drive
Tiller torque? With a 180hp? Nope...it'll just rip your arm off...

The black widow is being designed out of cut off Louisiana. I saw it running around PAC in June. It's a beast. Dude was outrunning bay boats in it

Re: Modus v4 surface drive
Judging by the price ranges we have now a motor like that on a drive will more than likely be pricey. If all fares well could still be worth it

Re: Modus v4 surface drive
What is going to be interesting is whether or not they get caught up in the "over 1000cc" outboard engine mess. It's been a while since I looked at the regs, but there's something about engines over 1000cc and having to meet EPA standards or something else for marine use. I dont remember the specifics, but there's a reason lawnmower engines have been the engine of choice because they were under 1000cc. One offs and backyard builds aren't an issue, but manufacturers might be. Again, I dont remember the specifics, and they might be ok because something changed, but if not, it could drive the cost up even more because of the certification process.

Re: Modus v4 surface drive
Just based off someone I talked to with the company..,.black widow is coming soon. And it’s impressive.
The power to weight ratio is awesome and yes it’ll out run most comparable outboard boats...no tiller, center console only. And price point will be realistic. I know people who have considerably more $ tied up in a dual set up

Re: Modus v4 surface drive
This unit would be awesome. BUt one drawback I can see is depending on where you plan to run it could be a problem. On many WMA's there is either a horsepower restriction if a boat of any kind is allowed at all. And then I know many land companies that lease their land have 36 HP restrictions and they enforce it pretty hard. So, we may find ourselves wanting this motor, but no place to really run it in action.
